Breakfast Traditions

This is sponsored content by BlogHer and Kelloggs.

Do you have any morning rituals? I remember, as a kid, my mom would wake me and my sister up early on New Year's Day. She'd have the TV trays set up in the family where we'd get to eat the breakfast she'd prepared while we watched the parades on TV. It was a real treat until I was old enough to realize that getting up early was just wrong, even I was allowed to eat in the family room while watching TV.

Nowadays, my kids like to make me breakfast in bed for Mother's Day. I remember one year in particular when they made me pancakes despite the fact that we were out of eggs. The pancakes were, ummm, interesting. That was the same year the older kids gave the baby breakfast while I stayed in bed. They fed him a can of pineapple. A whole can. As you can imagine, his poor little butt burst into flames every time he pooped for the next week. Ahhh, good times, good times.

Do you have any breakfast traditions? If so, what are they? Leave me a comment here to be entered for a chance to win a $100 Visa gift card from Kellogg's and BlogHer!

  2. On Christmas morning we let the kids open the presents in their stockings. Then we eat homemade cinnamon rolls. Then we read the story of Jesus' birth from the Bible, and then we open presents.

  3. I'm not the breakfast parent in this house. I do cereal and toaster waffles before school for the kids.

The kids love Saturdays. Hubby is the one that makes a mean breakfast and they get french toast or pancakes make into shapes. All this happens while I'm still sleeping! LOL

  6. Our ritual consists of me cooking breakfast every morning. Scrambled eggs, sometimes waffles, crepes, french toast, or oatmeal. Then I help the kiddos get ready! On holidays we always make a little something holiday related for breakfast, like Boo-Berry Muffins!

  8. Breakfast traditions....every Christmas, Santa brings a box of sugar cereal for every stocking. It's the only time of year we have it in our cupboards, and the kids REALLY enjoy Christmas breakfast!!

  9. On weekdays the tradition is cereal. Saturdays- waffles, pancakes, etc. On Christmas morning we make Berries & Cream French Toast!

  16. Christmas morning we have breakfast casserole and french toast after stockings and presents. Thinking about adding some other special breakfasts after this contest!

  17. Christmas is the big one, every year when we are done with gifts we make iced cinnamon rolls and juice for 'breakfast'. We did it when I was a kid and I carried it into my adult life.

Of course mothers day is good too, my husband and son let me sleep in and then when I'm up and dressed they take me out to breakfast wherever I want to go.

  18. We have family breakfasts on Saturdays when we are in no rush to get out of the house. The kids love french toast or pancakes.

  20. We haven't really developed breakfast traditions yet. This promotion has gotten me thinking of starting some, though. I'll begin with hot cocoa on the cold holiday mornings like when I was a kid since even if we are far from home, I should be able to arrange that easily enough.

  23. On Thanksgiving we have a big breakfast with an egg/sausage/cheese casserole, mixed berries muffins and a fruit salad. And the best part is, everything is made or assembled the day before so on Thanksgiving morning I just get up and throw the casserole in the oven for an hour and then just sit around having a relaxing morning.

  24. Christmas morning always means quiche and homemade cinnamon rolls!

  25. We each have our favorite sugary (bad!) cereal wrapped under the tree, after we open all of our gifts (and cereal) on Christmas morning we all get to eat a big bowl of our favorite treat cereal!

  52. Christmas morning is the certainly my favorite morning. My kids are early morning risers, and Christmas morning is no different. They are up usually at about 6am. We watch them open all their presents while my husband and I drink our coffee. The stash of new toys keeps them busy while I start cooking breakfast. Our tradition is french toast (made with my mother's homemade Challah bread), bacon, eggs, and homemade home fries. We feast and it usually keeps us full and satisfied until Christmas dinner is ready!

  53. My husband was in the military when the children were small. They loved it when he was home on the weekend because he liked to make pancakes for them. Christmas mornings were more about opening gifts than having breakfast!

  72. We always have breakfast at my house Christmas morning! We invite my aunt and uncle, mom and dad, grandparents - and everyone sits down for a nice family breakfast and my 5 year old son gets to show off his gifts from Santa! This year we'll have a new addition - I have a baby due in a week, so it will be a little more challenging, but definitely special! I'll be out on unpaid maternity leave through Christmas, so I would LOVE to win this to help actually purchase our breakfast items. Thanks for the chance! Here's crossing my fingers!! :)
