$100 From Lands' End!

suits It's that time of year. Time to go shopping for a new bathing suit. Is there anything quite so depressing as trying on swimsuits in front of those huge dressing room mirrors under that flattering florescent light? When I'm in a dressing room trying on swimsuits, I'm just sure that some kid is going to crawl under the door, see me half naked and be traumatized for life. Or worse, I have an irrational fear of the fire alarm going off in the store and being forced to emerge from the dressing room and out onto the street in an ill fitting bathing suit. I can't think of a more embarrassing situation.

Of course you have to try on swimsuits with your underwear which is just lovely if you wear big granny pants and have to tuck your underwear up into the legs of your suit to see how it will really look on you. And it's nearly impossible for poor pear shaped people like me to find a swimsuit that fits on both the top and bottom.bathing suit

So, when Lands' End asked me if they could send me a swimsuit to try on in the comfort of my own home, I was interested. I was interested, but I still rather doubted they had any suits that would fit me and look less hideous than a hippo in a tutu nice. I took a look at the Lands' End website. I'd never shopped from Lands' End before and was very pleasantly surprised by their huge selection of swim wear. Not only do they have many items from which to choose, but they have so many attractive styles and a huge size range. Because I can't manage to stick to Weight Watchers for more than a week at a time, I still have to buy plus sizes and let me tell you, finding a flattering suit in a larger size is no easy feat. Lands' End has pages and pages of possibilities, however.

swim topOf course, they also have normal sizes too. They've got everything: Slender Suits designed to flatter a variety of body shapes and make you appear slimmer, Mix and Match Separates (perfect for pear shaped people!), one pieces, tankinis, swim shorts, swim skirts, mastectomy suits, cover-ups, bikinis, custom suits, and more! They seriously have something for everyone.

That's my top up there! It fits because I was able to order a size smaller on the top than on the bottom. It has underwire too, so I won't have to tuck my boobs into my shorts.

OK, now here's the awesome part! You, my wonderful readers, can win a $100 gift card to use on Lands' End swim wear! That's right - A HUNDRED DOLLARS! You can go to your local Lands' End store or use it online. (I recommend using it online and trying your new bathing suit on in the comfort of your own home.) How awesome is that?

Just leave me a comment and I'll choose a winner on Wednesday, May 7th at 10:00 PM central time. In the meantime, check out Lands' End's website and pick out your favorite suit! Happy shopping!

I would love a Lands' End swimsuit! I have been browsing them this year but can't quite afford one. Thanks for offering the contest!

I've bought their suits before and they hold up fantastically to the pool and sunshine. I love all their different styles too!

Oh, holy cow...I LOVE me some Land's End...I could ACTUALLY buy something with $100!!!

Hi Dawn,
Have you tried the virtual model that lets you put in your measurements and see what you really look like with the suit on? It's terrific. I would LOVE a new lands end suit.

Anonymous said...

OK- So here's a story. Friends of mine were trying on swimsuits and this cute little 20ish, SKINNY, girl asked thier opinion on a swimsuit. After tons of means thoughts ran through thier heads, they gave her THIER opinion. You can imagine what they wanted to tell her. Anyway, she was deciding between two suits. They of course told her they liked the one that looked the worst on her!! Poetic Justice!!

I need the underwire just to make it look like I have boobs!!

Here's to hoping the fat doesn't hang out of the swimsuit this year!

Wow! It would be wonderful to win that prize and get a great suit so I can swim with my grandfishes, uh I mean grandbabies. :)

Land's End is the bomb! My love affair started with them when we lived in Alaska. You could actually get warm winter gear from them and not pay the atrocious prices of other, like quality items. Now we live in Washington state and I love all their waterproof offerings! I would love a new LE swim suit!

Hi Dawn

I've been enjoying your blog ever since you posted on Ebay. Can't wait for your book--good for you!

I looked through the Land's End catalogue last year looking for a suit. They claim to have a suit for every body type. I didn't order because they were too expensive, but wanted too!

So I am also pear shaped, but my boobs shriveled up after nursing my third child. Before children, I was a solid "C", but now am barely a "B"! Forget about tucking them in, we're not even to my past the rib cage! In addition to the "ski slope" effect...

Oh well. The kids are worth it. Enjoy your new suit!

You rock! Thanks for the tip! I would love to not have to try to tuck my panties into a suit in a tiny dressing room with my three kids peeking under the door laughing at the person in the next stall! PICK ME :)

All I would need is a tan to go with that swimsuit! Where can I get a free tan!??

Cool give-a-way!! Thanks for the chance to win! Land's End has great jackets & bags. And, if your child has to wear a uniform for school, their pants with the reinforced knees are virtually indestructible!

Dawn, I really love your blogs, but this is the first time I've commented. Unless you use an affiliate link for things you recommend, you're really missing out. I see that Land's End uses Linkshare, and your link is not a traditional Linkshare link. Unless you know a way of hiding affiliate links that I haven't heard of yet (and I know a few) you're throwing away 5% on the sales made from the ton of people you're sending their way. Most of your readers won't know the difference if you're using an affiliate link, but many of us would appreciate from you benefiting from your recommendations. Oh, and I'd love a new suit, too. Thanks.

Okay,
Not sure if you are picking from the BEST message, or just drawing randomly, but it's worth a try.

Just in case, I will leave a comment to say how WONDERFUL I think you are, and how BEAUTIFUL your kids are, and that I will buy TONS of your books, and...

that I haven't wore a swimsuit since before my twins were born 4 and a half years ago!

If I did win, I would have to promise myself that I would spend the money on a suit, instead of spending on the boys. That's usually what happens.

Okay, in the case you just pick randomly, I will stop here.

Here's hoping you have a great weekend!

Hi Dawn,

I don't ask much of my swimsuit, just that it:

* Hoist the boobs up
* Smoosh the hips in
* Suck the tummy flat
* Smooth out the bum
* Hide the back fat
* Make my feet soft and smooth
* Keep my toenail polish from chipping
* Keep my hair from getting greasy
* Stop the hair from growing on my legs and *other unmentionable places*
*Make someone who is a size 18 look like a size 8

Do they have a suit that does all that?

Thanks for the daily laugh,
Jen

We love Lands End! In fact, I am Lands End from head to toe and underneath!

I used to buy my little one bathing suits from Target and such places, and would have to buy 5 or more at a time and then halfway through summer, have to buy more because a strap broke, or it got all pilled up on the bottom, or it faded and became see through. So, last year I invested in 2 suits from Land's End and they outlasted the summer AND she can still wear it this summer! They look brand new and I know at the end of this summer, they will be great for hand me downs.

I usually shop the discounts because it can get pricey.

Hi Dawn, been reading your blog for several months now. It brings a smile to my face as I, too, have a six pack! I've been faithful to my resolution to get in shape and have (FINALLY!) worked my way up to burning 900+ calories an hour at the gym every morning! Now if the weight would start dropping, I'd be happy but so far, I've only lost 5 lbs in 8 weeks. Ah well, it'll come. As it is I'm just enjoying the 20 minute shower without interruptions or legos being thrown in the tub with me. A free swimsuit is just what the workout ordered! :) Hope I win!

Oh I always order my suits from Land's End! I have a long torso and most swimsuits don't fit unless its a two piece... and trust me, after 3 kiddos, you DO NOT! want me to put on a two-piece!

So cool! Thanks, Dawn!
Hope you found one that fits you ~ Faith R.

I really, really, really need a new swimming suit. My suit from Target that I got 4 years ago is atrocious!! Love your blog Dawn!

I am going to check out their site now. After having 4 children...2 c-sections...5 plus years of breastfeeding, I need something to help this mommy feel more comfortable at the pool.

I have REALLY enjoyed reading your blog. Thank you!

Since the only way I could ever justify spending $100 on a bathing suit is if someone let me do it with free money, please, please, please...pick me!

Dawn, I TOTALLY agree on the suits for teens - I actually wore Land's End suits up until I buckled too peer pressure in college. Well, that and my mom wasn't buying anymore. I'm glad you found something you like!! wildcatplh@netzero.com

Land's End (and Dawn) where have you been all of my overweight life? I just took a peek at the website and my head was "swimming" with possibilities. Thanks so much for broadening my horizons, Dawn. Chances are slim (ha, ha) but hope I'm the lucky one.

Peace and Blessings!

Pick me Pick me if only it were that easy right?? Well I also am pearshaped so I know completely how hard it is to find a suit which is why it's been over 3 years since I bought one. Hope I win-sasha.garcia@us.army.mil

Thanks for the info! I too have to shop plus size and think they all look "granny" flower yuck! I will be checking out the site for sure!

I just got on the mailing list for Land's End and was thrilled with the modesty of many of the suits. Two years ago my husband was called to Pastor a church three blocks from the ocean in North Wildwood, NJ!!! So... my little ones and I get to be there a good bit in the summer. I'd love to be picked as your winner, because I'm not sure I can splurge, even if it will last for years to come! Thanks for hosting the givaway and thanks for all the laughs!
