Cleaning With a Bald Guy
Have you seen these? Have you used them? If not, you have to run out to your closest store and get some Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. Now! Do it! Seriously, you'll thank me! I was recently given samples of these from Mr. Clean and BlogHer so I could try them out. I don't know how they work, but they must contain some sort of magic potion for removing dirt and grime. And here's a bonus - they smell like Febreeze! Not that the fragrance makes us want to clean. Pretty much nothing can do that. But if we have to clean, we might as well enjoy the way it smells, right?
OK, so I started the nasty grout on my bathroom floor. Ewwww! As I started scrubbing, I realized that my grout wasn't black like I thought! It's ivory! Who knew?
Two lines are done in this picture. It worked beautifully! I mean, it really worked. I'd never used Mr. Clean Magic Eraser on anything but marker, crayon, scuff marks, and foot prints (don't ask) on walls. I was impressed.
The only problem was - these things fall apart pretty quickly when you're cleaning something rough like grout.
Here's my scuffed up, nasty door. Believe me, this picture doesn't do it justice. It was quite nasty.
Oooo, behold the sparkly whiteness!
You can really see the dirt that gets embedded in my fridge handles if you enlarge the picture.
Oooo nice and clean. Well, until the next kid comes inside with filthy hands and decides they need a snack. Oh speaking of - the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser works well cleaning the shelves and drawers inside your fridge too! You know, the spilled, sticky juice-gunk that accumulates on the bottom of the fridge, the hand prints on the wall, the dirt-like nastiness that just appears in the milk compartment and the goo that stinks up your veggie drawer when you buy lovely healthy produce and promptly forget about it until it liquifies.
YUCK! At least, I can say that I cook.
Much better. This stove has stains that have been there for 20 years and are never coming off (as you can probably tell from the attractive harvest gold color, this stove is really OLD), but most of the crud has vanished.
I love, love, love these Magic Erasers! I've never found any other cleaner that can get stuff as clean as these do. Go HERE for more special tips on the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.

I love these too! You're right... they work magic on walls and doors!
I LOVE the Mr. Clean Magic Erasers! I use them to clean tons of stuff all over the house. It's the only reason my white kitchen cabinets & countertops are still white! LOL Works wonders on the tub/shower & shower doors as well! Also removes rust stains from stainless steel sinks. And best....removes permanent (as in Sharpie!) marker from white laminate countertop and dry erase marker from flat paint on walls. Best invention ever!
Here's a male Mr. Clean story for you. DS6 has temporary tattoos on, and the teacher(Catholic school)said he had to take them off. No prob, I tell DH to use baby oil or rubbing alcohol. Apparently, while I am at work, he uses the Mr. Clean eraser to cleam DS's tattoos off! Big NONO! Lots of abrasions, big, oozy wounds. Poor kid had to have his arms bandaged for weeks. So, moral of the story, keep away from kids!
I love these things! I haven't tried the kind that smell good, but I will now! If Mr Clean ever takes these off the market, I most likely won't clean ever again. I use them on almost everything.
Thanks for the review Dawn!
I love these things too! I used them to take paint off my front bumper of my car when I accidentally "ran into" the McDonald's drive thru. *cough*
One warning though, make sure you keep them away from the little ones. If they mistake them for a sponge and use them to scrub their face or skin, the chemical and grit in them can actually scour and burn off skin!
I love Magic Erasers also. They clean everything, even chocolate off of cream colored upholstery on my counter stools (grandkids like chocolate and sitting on Oma's stools). As you said though, they do fall apart easily. Otherwise, they are great.

I love these things. They also get the nasty bug stuff off of cars, and spray paint when some neighbor kid decides to paint all the cars on the block.
Dawn,
I love love love these too, but be careful there was an email going around that showed blisters on kids hands and arms caused by these. I do believe it was checked out by snoops and they said not to let children handle them without having on gloves. So glove up them kids and put them to work :)
I found that having them clean up their own mess pretty much put a stop to the messes... I just stood and watched as they scrubbed the marks they put on the wall, that was until I found chalkboard paint and painted the bottom half of the biggest wall in the play room chalkboard and let them write all they wanted on it. Me too, me too, me too! I LOVE that product! I don't know what they've got in it, but if they ever quit making it, I will personally kill whomever is responsible.
Have you tried it on shower doors? The shower stall? That thing cleans fiberglass like nobody's business!!
It's all I use anymore. :-)
I love those things. They TOTALLY rock. Will have to try them the next time I find a puddle of unidentified goo on the fridge shelf.
Oh, and the link on more tips takes me to a blogher page that says I don't have permission to view it. Just FYI.....
I certainly hope you have taken some stock in these MC Erasers! You sold me...I'm off to buy a box or two!
~AirmanMom returning to her blog...
Ahhh! I don't have permission to access the page of more info on the magic erasers!
Seriously, I must be doing something wrong with them cause by the time I manage to scrub (read with much labor) a single mark off the wall, I need to take a 30 min break! I'm no wuss, I keep up with my 2 toddlers fine and exercise, but using these things really takes it out of me. Granted they do work, but I just can't motivate myself to get so worn out just for a few less tiny finger smudges on the walls...
I'm gasping that you didn't know about them until now. How have you managed?
Get some spray-on grout cleaner and a skinny scrubbing brush at Home Depot for the grout - more effective and you're not making the Magic Erasers fall apart before their time.
I am a HUGE magic eraser fan. Those things really do work miracles.
I use them all the time! Love them!!!
I agree..these are the best things out there. I have yet to try the new scented ones so I could only imagine how yummy they smell when you clean
Love. These. They get lipstick and other makeup off the tile and grout really well...I knew they would, but of course I made her try it with cold water and a rag first. After about 10 minutes of smearing greasy makeup I handed her a Magic Eraser. Clean in 2 minutes!! Not only good cleaners, but good life-lesson tools, too. Just be sure to say, "Do you think it's fair for mommy to have to clean all of this up? It's hard work isn't it?" snigger, snigger...
I think Magic Erasers were sent from heaven! I LOVE them. Did you know that Target sells them in a mop form? I haven't bought one yet because everytime I go there to buy one they are sold out. They're pretty popular! Thanks for sharing!!

They also work great on granite sinks covered with hard water stains!!
You are not the only one with harvest gold appliances! Long live the 70s! (Just think, in about 20 years, we'll be hip once more!)
Because I am a mom I am leary of these things. The chemicals may get things clean looking but what are we exposing our families to? I'll stick with good ole vinegar and water and a whole heck of a lot of elbow grease.
oh the magic eraser . .the bestest thing ever! and the magic eraser mop rocks ( i got one and then literally sped home to try it, and then called everyone i could think of to use it!)
one warning about magic eraser - never ever start to clean your tub with it! then you realize what color it is supposed to be and you just have to keep scrubbing!
really cool tip - use your mop and eraser with mixed mr clean cleaning solution, it works even better! (lots less elbow grase)
i accidently found a solution to the ancient harvest gold stove. if the element goes out it is really hard to find a replacement for the really old ones. then your inlaws feel sorry for your children that are now eating out of the microwave and toaster over and they buy you a brand new stove! first new stove in my life!
hope you get a new one soon!
These things are awesome! I have cleaned my entire kitchen floor with them (tile) - and it looked frickin awesome when I was done.
LOVE THEM.
I have a very deep and meaningful relationship with the Magic Eraser. A lot of it has to do with the Magic. Kids will clamor to do the cleaning because of that word. It's truly a win-win.
I am in love with the bald guy and his magic-takes crayon off the walls so well!
These work AMAZINGly on white leather tennis/running shoes/sneakers. AMAZING. No reason to clean shoes any other way.
I had always liked my Magic Eraser, but it wasn't until my camping trailer got graffitied that I fell in love with it. It took blue spray paint or a metal surface painted white without leaving any residue!
Good post.
