Time to Slow Down & Enjoy

This is sponsored content by BlogHer and Kelloggs.

I've told you how much I hate mornings and how I don't do a very good job getting up and making my kids a hot breakfast during the week. But the weekends...ahhh, the weekends, are a different story. When I'm not awakened by my evil alarm clock, I'm a much more pleasant person. When I don't have to rush anyone off to school, I have time to cook breakfast and the kids have time to actually chew and taste it before gulping it down.

On Sundays, after church, we come home and cook Belgian waffles, or monkey bread. We cut up fresh fruit, fry up some bacon, and pour glasses of icy cold orange juice. My kids all help with the preparation. I love teaching my kids to cook. My daughter, Savannah is taking a foods class in high school this year. She's come home from school and told me, in disbelief, "Mom, the other kids didn't even know how to peel a potato!" Or, "No one else knew how to dice an onion!" I'm glad, by the time my kids leave the house, they'll possess basic cooking skills and won't have to eat popcorn for dinner every night. Now if I could just get them to help me clean up the kitchen...

So, how are weekends different in your home? Are they difference? For a chance to win a $100 Visa gift card, leave me a comment here and let me know what kind of traditions you have for weekend breakfasts?

Only difference between the week and weekend is we all sit down TOGETHER! During the week everyone has different schedules so it's hard for everyone to be together. LOVE this about the weekends...

Weekend breakfasts for us mean a good old brunch...scrambled eggs, sausage or bacon, pancakes or biscuits. We love eating together on a Saturday morning!

oftentimes our weekend mornings seem just as hectic as other mornings, unfortunately. But on that rare Saturday morning, when we don't have to sprint our the door, I love to make pancakes or waffles, topped with strawberries or blueberries from the freezer!

My family LOVES chocolate chip pancakes. I always wake up early on Saturday morning and prepare these treats for my kids. Occassionally my husband will make his famous breakfast burritos. These are awesome (because I don't cook them...lol). We love family breakfasts on the weekends!

We actually have time to cook breakfast and sit down and enjoy it on weekends. My kids beg for the famous bacon that they love. And we must throw in some pancakes too!

My husband has been known to cook pancakes on Sunday mornings, but it is rare. We usually do the same thing... cereal.

When I make breakfast on Sunday I usually make enough to put in the fridge for the school week. Then in the mornings, I pull it out, pop it in the microwave and hot breakfast it is. Usually it's pancakes, muffins, or occasionally sweet rolls but they all reheat nicely and more importantly quickly.

Usually I try to make muffins... nothing fancy but something that does take a little more time than I have on weekdays.

We usually go out to eat on Sunday mornings--on the later side--Bob Evens has some stuffed pancakes that I love. On Saturday's everyone kind of does their own thing because we get up at different times. Sometimes do a later breakfast because we sleep late. My favorite is blueberry pancakes with lite sausage.

Saturday mornings are no different from the week except we get to sleep an extra hour and 40 minutes - then its time to get up and hurry out the door to bowling (and from there to gymnastics for my DD). But Sunday mornings, when my husband is home, he LOVES to cook breakfast - pancakes or waffles or his famous crepes. The only downside of the crepes is that we don't all sit down together since they're made one at a time; the kids and I sit together and DH cooks and serves. We do get to talk, just differently than if when we have pancakes or waffles.

Saturday mornings are usually pretty busy for us, and like you Dawn, I do not have the time to cook breakfast during the week in between the hustle and bustle of getting the kids up, dressed, and to the bus stop on time. Sundays however are different. We usually do different things, eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, livermush (a southern thing), waffles, pancakes, potatoes...it all just depends. I too am trying to teach my kids how to cook. My niece is learning to cook on the George Foreman grill and makes great hotdogs and grilled cheese sandwiches, while my daughter can cook things like meatloaf and mashed potatoes. However, being she is only 9, this means I peel the potatoes, cut them, wash them, cook them, and she mixes them.

Love the weekends! Love breakfast!! I could eat a big breakfast everyday - if only I had the time and the super duper metabolism for it! :)

When it comes to the menu, our household of 4 are equally divided - two of us like the sweet stuff like pancakes and waffles, while the other two like anything fried and smothered in gravy. We take turns or make a little of both and everyone's happy.

Yum! I'm hungry now! :)

We don't usually have a planned out breakfast on Saturdays, because my husband works a lot of Friday nights/Saturdays. But Sundays (especially the Sundays we have the boys), we go all out. Weekends here are actually busier than the weekdays, but breakfast is typically no different. The kids or I decide if we want bagels with cream cheese, cold cereal or oatmeal. If the kids behave (I have 4 kids, aged 5 to 9 months), I might be persuaded to make scrambled eggs and toast. If I want to cook a big breakfast, I'll usually make it for dinner! :)

Saturday I'll make smoothies and let the kids drink them in front of the TV. Sunday is Dad's turn to make pancakes, eggs or French toast. The great thing about weekends is being able to eat a leisurely breakfast instead of rushing to get to school!

My sons & I decide on Saturday what we want for Sunday breakfast, OK so maybe brunch. Anyway, they prepare the menu, their favorite is chocolate chip pancakes with powdered sugar sprinkled on the top. We make 'em from scratch and my 12 year old has mastered breaking an egg in each hand at the same time. My 10 year old is the flipper and know exactly how many bubbles each pancake should have. I LOVe that they are so in to cooking & know the basics. No ramen noodles for them!

Now that my high schooler has graduated, that means no more really early mornings, my two girls in elementary school don't start until 830am so I try to make sure they eat breakfast but that doesn't always happen so I've started making fruit smoothies using frozen fruit (the big $10 bags from costco) juice and I'll add a container of yogurt...blend it up and put it in those plastic to-go cups we take home from restaurants my girls love it and enjoy it on the drive to school. Sunday morning is usually our time for big breakfasts, eggs, potatoes, toast, bacon or sausage and when I do make pancakes I make extra and put them in ziplocks for weekday mornings when my girls want them but I don't have time to cook.

We're either very boring people or simply creatures of habit. Breakfast tends to be the same....7 days a week ;)

Sometimes on weekends, I'll make a hot breakfast versus the cereal and milk breakfasts during the week - it all depends on what we have going on and what kind of mood I'm in! :) ashleypichea at gmail dot com

There's no time during weekday mornings to cook breakfast but I do cook it sometimes on weekends. The thing we actually love to do is splurge and go to Burger King for a breakfast croissanwich! We love them!

Breakfast at our house means actually having a breakfast. That's when we break out the waffle maker or the skillet for bacon, eggs and fried potatoes. All other mornings are a fend for yourself type.

I love weekend breakfasts!
