Fireproof

A while back, I mentioned on my blog that Joe and I were having marital issues. A few of you have asked how we're doing. Not great. I don't want to get into all the sordid details on my blog because my blog is to make people laugh; not cry. I have no problem sharing pictures of the pig sty boys' room. I can tell everyone what a bad mom I was and how guilty I felt when Lexi got hurt under the garage door. But I'm not comfortable sharing the personal details of my marriage. Thanks for understanding.

Anyway, the issues have been around for many, many, many years and they're not going to disappear overnight, if ever. Although, I have to thank those of you who suggested we see the movie FIREPROOF. Fireproof is from the makers of Facing the Giants (another good movie). The movie was awesome!

At first, I said, "Well, I liked the movie and I can absolutely see how it could make a difference in a couple's marriage, but that's not the case here." Well, it's been a few weeks since we saw it and I've since changed my mind. I think it actually did make a difference in Joe. Little by little, I've seen some changes in him. Will they last? Is he really changing things now? And is it too late anyway? Only time will tell, but there's definitely something good working in him.

If you have a good marriage, watch it with your spouse. If you have a marriage that could use some work (I think that's most couples) WATCH THIS! Even, if like me, you're headed to divorce court, take a chance and watch the movie together. If it doesn't change the way you think, then what have you lost? Nothing. But you might be surprised. They've received literally thousands of letters from men saying they wanted to date their wives again. In fact, you can read many of them HERE.

Here's a trailer...

And HERE'S a page with extra resources for you to check out (like the Love Dare book featured in the movie.)

Fireproof comes out on DVD January 27th and you can preorder it HERE. I highly recommend it. (Oh yeah, make sure you have a LOT of tissues handy when you watch this movie.)

And just for my readers, I have 20 Fireproof DVDs to give away! Leave me a comment here and I'll choose 20 random winners on Friday, January 23rd. Please remember to check back in on the 23rd because winners will have 2 days to give me their shipping information. If I don't hear from the winners, I'll choose new ones.

I'd love a copy of this movie. I added it to my list at Blockbuster.

I'm in. I saw the trailer earlier, but it seemed to be blaming the guy more than the girl, which didn't seem right to me. Usually it's both sides misunderstanding each other, taking each other for granted, etc. Do you think the movie leaned too heavily toward blaming just the guy?

Everyone I talked to says the movie is WONDERFUL! With three small kids at home, my husband and I never got out to see it. It would be great to have our own copy!

Even if I don't win, we'll plan to see this movie. Have heard wonderful things about it everywhere. Marriage isn't without risk, but it is certainly worth the investment.

I'm sorry to hear that you guys are struggling in your marriage. I've been going through some emotional health problems this past year and that has put a strain on our marriage as well. But, my husband continues to TRY to understand. I used to compulsively buy DVD's and other things (as part of my struggle), but I've finally overcome that habit. I would LOVE to win a copy of this DVD, so that I'm not tempted to buy it when it comes out. Either way, I hope things improve for you. :)

Dawn, I wish you and Joe the best. I heard a lot about this movie and know my husband and I need to see this. Right now, our marriage is going thru a very rought time. He was diagnosed with MS in April, then we both lost our jobs and now going thru the added stress of losing our dream home. The past year has been a very rough road for both of us. I'm hoping the movie can help our situation.

Take Care,
Debbie

This movie was awesome and I agree that every couple should watch it. No marriage is perfect and it is so easy to get complacent, especially with as busy as many of us are. I will pray for the two of you as you work on your marriage.

I don't know that my husband and I are neccessarily struggling in our marriage, but he is not a Christian. Any chance I get to show him the reality of God's love, is one I'm going to take. I would love to have a copy of the movie, so we could watch it together.

I can't wait to see this movie, and intend to find SOMEWAY to get it shown at my church (as soon as I talk to one of the pastors!).

AuntyM said...

This is one movie that I really, really want to own!
When I saw it advertised on tv I looked to see where it was playing in Wyoming: one theater 90 minutes from where we live. Told hubby about it, but with his work schedule we never made it to the theater to see it (that's rural life--too many unexpected events). When he finally had a time when he could go, the movie was no longer playing there. I was so disappointed.
To win my very own copy of this movie would be a joy.
BTW, we live in a small town with one movie theater that shows ONE movie for one week.
Thank you for the contest.

Haven't seen the movie but keep hearing great things about it. Like, seriously headed to divorce court?

Sometimes hard to tell when you're teasing, exaggerating or completely honest. I'm sure it's hard having all of "us" wanting to know - we feel like we know you.

Maybe you could make watching the movie a weekly thing. It might sink in eventually. :0)

Dawn, I would love a copy of this movie but no doubt you can't send it to me here in Canada. So I will just go on dreaming that maybe I will be able to rent it.
I get where you are coming from on sharing details of your marriage. I moved 3.5 years ago to this place and I still don't have a close gf to talk to and feel so alone. Things are not as good as they used to be between my husband and I and I really miss him. This move changed a lot in both of us. Sad, cuz we used to be so happy.
Anyway, hope you have fun picking the winners.

added to say as I investigated this I saw the word religious and words....I grew up religious and still choose to practice....my husband is a well he says proove it...but I have made him question and rethink quite a few times...i don't push the religion factor...we both agree if our children CHOOSE to be religious we won't hold them back either....well I was scared because he hates the idea of religion being pushed on him and I thought maybe this would do it but I went to the books website and read the first chapter....WOWOW I am amazed it talked baout religion enough to where you understood but it also left it out enough to where you could still relate this your life and practice the challenges if you are not religious....I am definetly buying the book and already referred the movie and book to a young couple (20yrs) that are having problems becuase he is in the marines!!!Thank you for bringing this into our lives!

I'd love to have a copy of this DVD.

I would also say to you: Please don't give up on yourself and Joe and your marriage. Your children need both of you. My parents went through the process of divorce and reconciled just before it became final. It was hell during that interim that they were apart.

Yes there were times when they struggled mightily, but they eventually came to a time when they had a very sweet life together. My Mom took umbrage at how her fellow quilters critically talked about their husbands. She instead would always comment on something she found good about my Dad. Well all this good gossip got back to my father and it made a difference. My Mom said she had to be careful about making it known what she wanted, because he would move heaven and earth to get it for her. Definitely not my Dad of earlier years.

Look for the good, because you always find what you are looking for. Hang on like velcro and never give up, you won't be sorry.

I wanted to see this so bad but never made it. I think it would be great for our relationship especially now with a 5 month old in the mix. I hope I win!

I would love to win this movie! From your blog and reading about the movie I was able to tell my in-laws what the movie was about when we were looking for one to see over the holidays. :) I hope and pray things are going much better for you and Joe.

I would LOVE to get this movie for free. If I don't I am definitely going to order it. We already have the other two made by Sherwood Pictures. We like them too. If I win one I will be absolutely amazed. (I never win anything) :)

Hey Dawn! My husband and I saw Fireproof in the theater, and it was WONDERFUL! We have also watched the Kendrick brothers' other movies - Facing the Giants and Flywheel. They were great, too! Anyway, things have definitely gone downhill here at home, and we could greatly benefit from watching this movie again, to remind us of what a marriage is supposed to look like. I will be praying for your marriage, too. Blessings!

I've heard great things about this, but with small kids we never make it to the movie theater anymore. Pick me!

Looks like an awesome movie!

Wow,I haven't seen this movie, but what a powerful trailer. To see that his Dad thought so much about his Son and Daughter in Law's relationship that to give them the gift of the book. I have been married 22 years, and will watch this movie with my husband because every marriage needs a little wake up call like this. Dawn, I will be praying for you and your husband.

I would love to win this movie. The hubs & I haven't seen it but we have both read the book and what a blessing it has been in our lives. He iis employed by the city Fire Deot. and so many of the issues in this book hit so close to home.

I'd love to win a copy of this movie. I totally don't blame you for not wanting to share your marital issues with your blog readers...somethings are meant to be private.

Have yet to see this movie but would really like to see it! Would be great if we just won it! :-) Will be praying for you and your hubby, besides this movie I would REALLY REALLY recommend looking into Family Life marriage conference. My husband and I have been twice and it has changed our marriage! I think there are two conferences coming to the Chicagoland area in Feb or March.

We went to a marriage retreat and they said to make sure we check this out when it came out. They showed bits and pieces of it during some of the courses. There is a workbook or something also right?

Fireproof never made it into theatres near me, but I'd really, REALLY like to see it!

Anonymous #17, I noticed too and it made me sad :(.

Wishing you the best, Dawn!!! I really, really hope you can work through this.

I'd love a copy of the movie. Thanks for the opportunity!

I would love to see this movie. We still haven't seen it. We just don't go to the theater very often, way too much $$$ involved. It's why we have a 60" tv, lol.

I was crying watching the trailer. My DH is a fireman and I think this would be a VERY good movie for both of us to watch. We do hit some rough patches and could use a wake up call as to where they could lead.

I've had this movie on my "to rent" list for awhile. We're not exactly in the divorce court stage yet, but we were last year and could be pretty easily again. I would love to win this movie *fingers crossed*
