What Did You Do This Summer?

This is sponsored content by BlogHer and Kelloggs.

I love having my kids home for summer break. I enjoy the lazy days of sleeping in, no homework, no making school lunches, and no schedules to speak of. In the summer, I don't have to set my alarm; instead I just roll out of bed when my kids' fighting the sun wakes me.

But, as summer winds down and my kids' boredom increases, I get anxious for the routine that school provides. That's a nice way of saying, "Ohmygosh, if I hear my kids fight one more time, I'm gonna lose it!"

The most fun thing my kids and I did this summer was take a trip to the Outer Banks, NC. The twenty-four hour drive there was less than fun, but once we arrived - ahhhh. We had the best time! We spent long hours in the ocean and hanging out together in our rented beach house. In the morning, we collected seashells on the beach. At night, we took walks together in the sand. We curled up in the lounge chairs on the deck and ate dinner in the evening while listening to the sound of the surf.

Despite our awesome vacation, I just know when the kids go back to school and their teachers ask, "What did you do over summer break?" my kids are going to say something like, "We played in the sprinkler in our backyard!" But that's okay because it's not so much where you go or what you do that matters. It's those little moments of fun and laughter with each other that they'll remember.

For a chance to win a $100 Visa gift card, leave me a comment here and let me know what you like to do with your kids as summer winds down.

We spent the summer hanging out at our pool almost daily! The kids love it and there are always friends of theirs to play with!
Of course, my children's summer is officially at an end, they head back to school in a few short hours!

wait who won the cereal one? anyway our come of the summer is always going to the free waterparks. They charge all summer long then when August 30th hits they don't charge so we go! It's so expensive at $6 for a family of 5 not to mention what you buy when you are there!

We're heading to the beach, one more musuem trip, and another round of bowling. Simple, but it helps keep the bickering to a minimum.

Any ideas for a great back to school cake? (The kids will bake if it ever cools off.)

School has started. We're weather wimps here: It's ultra-hot, so our big plan is to see a couple of movies in an air-conditioned theater.

Thanks for a great giveaway!

I still have little ones so splash pools and sprinkling beach balls are our fun way of spending time together.

We don't do anything special. The girls stay up late during the summer so I spend a lot of time getting them use to going to bed early. That's a chore all on it's own. I shouldn't let them stay up but that's what summer vacations are for. Thanks for the giveaway!

This will always be the summer that my daughter and I remember as the year we got the backyard fenced in, so we're finally able to take the dogs out there every morning and run around with them and watch them romp and play together. So fun!

We would love to have one more sunny afternoon at the lake. The hot sun beating down on the cool waters is heaven right here in Tennessee. :)

This is my sons first year of school, since we spent all summer debating whether to actually send him (he's very small so we were considering holding him back a year). Turns out he was growth hormone deficient, and we've started him on shots. So his "end of summer" this year has been spent getting used to shots, and, as a reward, three weeks into school he will be getting a companion dog. Can't beat THAT for a good summer :)

we will probably do a few more trips to the pool and play some more tennis

I'd love to be able to take my three boys for a day at the beach before they start back to school (September 8th, thanks to Michigan's governor)... hasn't been in the budget yet this summer, and time's running out!

Being a new adoptive mom and dad and going from one boy to four literally overnight, we decided to keep our sanity this summer and have the boys enjoy the local outdoor YMCA camp every other week. The weeks they were off we did pj days, a trip somewhere fun like Airheads, tubing in ice cold water for hours down a lazy river, etc. It was an awesome plan - I had a bit of time to myself with just the little one and I also got a chance to make some wonderful memories with my boys.
