$100 From Lands' End!

suits It's that time of year. Time to go shopping for a new bathing suit. Is there anything quite so depressing as trying on swimsuits in front of those huge dressing room mirrors under that flattering florescent light? When I'm in a dressing room trying on swimsuits, I'm just sure that some kid is going to crawl under the door, see me half naked and be traumatized for life. Or worse, I have an irrational fear of the fire alarm going off in the store and being forced to emerge from the dressing room and out onto the street in an ill fitting bathing suit. I can't think of a more embarrassing situation.

Of course you have to try on swimsuits with your underwear which is just lovely if you wear big granny pants and have to tuck your underwear up into the legs of your suit to see how it will really look on you. And it's nearly impossible for poor pear shaped people like me to find a swimsuit that fits on both the top and bottom.bathing suit

So, when Lands' End asked me if they could send me a swimsuit to try on in the comfort of my own home, I was interested. I was interested, but I still rather doubted they had any suits that would fit me and look less hideous than a hippo in a tutu nice. I took a look at the Lands' End website. I'd never shopped from Lands' End before and was very pleasantly surprised by their huge selection of swim wear. Not only do they have many items from which to choose, but they have so many attractive styles and a huge size range. Because I can't manage to stick to Weight Watchers for more than a week at a time, I still have to buy plus sizes and let me tell you, finding a flattering suit in a larger size is no easy feat. Lands' End has pages and pages of possibilities, however.

swim topOf course, they also have normal sizes too. They've got everything: Slender Suits designed to flatter a variety of body shapes and make you appear slimmer, Mix and Match Separates (perfect for pear shaped people!), one pieces, tankinis, swim shorts, swim skirts, mastectomy suits, cover-ups, bikinis, custom suits, and more! They seriously have something for everyone.

That's my top up there! It fits because I was able to order a size smaller on the top than on the bottom. It has underwire too, so I won't have to tuck my boobs into my shorts.

OK, now here's the awesome part! You, my wonderful readers, can win a $100 gift card to use on Lands' End swim wear! That's right - A HUNDRED DOLLARS! You can go to your local Lands' End store or use it online. (I recommend using it online and trying your new bathing suit on in the comfort of your own home.) How awesome is that?

Just leave me a comment and I'll choose a winner on Wednesday, May 7th at 10:00 PM central time. In the meantime, check out Lands' End's website and pick out your favorite suit! Happy shopping!

Wow! I don't even own a swimsuit and we live in AZ. After giving birth to 4 kids and pregnant with our fifth I never even thought it would be possible. We are going to a Joni and Friends family summer camp next month and I know I should really get a swimsuit. Lands end looks like they would have the ones that would work for my less than perfect body type!
I sure hope I win!!!!

Cool! (please don't hate me but) I've recently lost just enough weight that my old suits don't fit any more. Not that I go swimming that often, but I'd appreciate not looking like I'm wearing a canvas sack.

LCP said...

Wow...I am VERY impressed with their selection too...but no maternity. I am going into my 5th month and am planning to take my 21 month old to swim lessons beginning June. You know how hard it is to fine a maternity swimsuit #1 when you aren't very big yet (how will this REALLY look once my hips get as big as my belly)and #2 for a price that isn't going to bust your "maternity wear" budget since you are most likely only going to wear it for one season!! But I would still love to find one for my post maternity body next summer (since all my bikini days are officially over after two rounds of stretch marks).

Thanks for this!!

ooooh, I just tried some of their clearance suits and they didn't work out (okay, so it was my thighs, and not the suits) but If I had $100 to spend. . .I could look fabulous when I take my son to swimming lessons.

I discovered LE suits while pregnant with my 3rd child- they offered MATERNITY suits in mix and match sizes, that unlike the maternity stores sold, had tops that could fit and SUPPORT those pregnant girls!!! I now get a new LE suit every year, now, non maternity! I love that I can choose my suit and try it on at home, and send it back if I don't like it. They hold up great and don't fade!

This Crazy Thing Called Motherhood said...

I also have the fear of trying things on in the dressing rooms at stores, but its mainly because I seem to get the dressing room next to the bored kid who peeks under the wall and watches me because he/she is tired of watching his/her own mother try on tons of crap! lol I mean, why look at your mom's spider veins, stretch marks, and cellulite when you can sneak a peek at someone else's body of horror! :p

Thanks for the product review. I will definitely check it out, since bathing suit shopping is quite a daunting task, as you mentioned!

When a big-boobed girl like myself started asking around about swimsuits, Land's End was the one place mentioned the most. The problem is I can't get the kiddos to go to the pool with dad because dad in a speedo is just too embarrassing for them. I’m torn between teaching the children to respect and accept their father’s swimwear preferences, because it’s his middle age belly after all - Or sending his speedo to the goodwill and replacing it with a land’s end mans swimsuit that covers those love handles. Can you help me?

I've been reading your blog since you were profiled in the St. Louis Post Dispatch and have really felt a kinship. When you suddenly find that you are a big family (and how did that happen?!?), not too many people can relate. I have 6 children as well (ages 4-14), and yes, they are from the same man, and yes, I know what "causes that", and no, I'm not trying for a boy, and no, now that I have a boy that doesn't mean I'm done . . .
OK, The last time I was forced to purchase a bathing suit, we had driven 15 hours to Mexico Beach Florida. I packed for our week-long vacation. I packed for EVERYONE; all eight of us. As soon as we reached our destination, I realized that I hadn't packed my 1994 hot pink Wal-Mart one-piece, and needed to purchase SOMETHING to wear at the beach. Apparently, even Florida has seasonal wear and I was forced to purchase two pieces (neither or which fit me)that were on sale. I looked much like the Manatees that Florida is famous for. At 6'-1" and I can't reveal my weight (after 6 pregnancies, my husband doesn't even know my weight, nor would he dare guess), I could use a decent fitting suit.
Thanks for keeping me chuckling. You find more humor in your everyday crazy life than I do!

Wow! I coincidentally just ordered swim separates from them last week (got the chain link double strap top & jersey skirt) & I love them. Would ABSOLUTELY love another as my post-3-babies-in-3-years body will never be going into a bikini again.

I agree with Barbara, I'd vote for Kimbalaya - she deserves it - 80 lbs - yep, that deserves a new suit.

Love Lands End suits - especially because of their separates - they're great if you're different sizes on top and bottom (not mentioning any names here.....) But they are more than most of us Moms would spend on ourselves, so whoever wins will be delighted! They're suits are wonderful and definitely worth every penny! And also, lots of modest choices for those of us who don't want our teenagers wearing as I call them, "patches and string".

I often think of a fire when I'm getting my hair weaved and I've got 95 aluminum foils sticking off my head like a walking antenna.

Although what would be worse, exiting the salon with the foils on or the color job gone bad because you can't rinse it off soon enough because of the fire?.....

I could use a new suit. I've lost 30 pounds since last summer (although I still have more to go). I don't think the world needs to see all that would be exposed by wearing the old suit!

Love Land's End, and since I've lost 100 lbs in the last 18 months, I desperately need some new clothes, so here's my comment! I read your blogs every day, you are one hysterical mama! Plus, you live in my neck of the woods so I always get a kick out of it when I recognize landmarks you mention.

Hi Dawn,

I love Lands' End swimwear! I however, chose not to pay full price for their suits and scour the "Overstocks" and monitor "On the Counter" for more affordable deals. Which has lead me to be in my current situation of two tops and no bottoms, so I hope I win! (you probably do too).

Stacie
P.S. I love your blog and have preordered copies of your book...I am very excited. (Should I have ordered the swimwear bottoms instead?!?)

Dawn, Thanks for telling us about the Land's End Swimsuit. I hate it just as much as you do. And totally can relate to the granny pants and tucking boobs into your shorts! I need a new swimsuit...have the same one for the last 4 years and it's falling apart!

Hey Dawn,

I know exactly the suit I want, I've been debating on buying it for a couple weeks. However as the "frugal" mom of 3 under 3 ... I've been holding back. However - after the stunt my kids pulled today (check out my blog, lol, www.tramontanamemories.blogspot.com) where they decided to empty an entire thing of baby powder in an effort to simulate snow ... I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to just break down and get the suit and let them fend for themselves! ;) Happy choosing, and love your blog!!

Hey Dawn! I love your blog! Lands end stuff is really nice, and holds up to any kind of torture well, even if it is our bodies that is torturing it! hee hee

I would love to win this! I need a new bathing suit very badly. My whole family would appreciate this!! Thanks Dawn!! You rock!

I'd love to win!

I haven't worn a bathing suit in many years, regardless of the fact that we have a pool. Unfortunately, this is because of surgery scars, not my weight. Maybe they will have something that will cover enough that I'll brave it.

A bathing suit with an underwire...obviously invented by a mom!!! How cool! Thanks and hope I win, because if I have to buy another bathing suit WITHOUT an underwire, I will be banned from the pool!!!

Hey, Dawn! I agree, I purchased a Land's End swim suit about 5 years ago and used their nifty "choose your body style model" and I was pleasantly surprised at how it fit!

I would LOVE to win and get an updated suit!

God Bless!

Hi Dawn,

Anonymous is right. It is Lands' End. But, do you know why? It was an error on their first catalog. (It may have been on the actually logo now that I think about it) Rather than reprint they went with the wrong version. They may have reconsidered if they knew they'd be around 30 years.

Another great thing about Lands' End is that many of their pants can be hemmed to order. That's right - us short legged girls can have pants that fit without a huge price. (I guess that would be good for tall folk too)

Oh, and they have great overstock deals. And they have elastic waist jeans/chinos/etc for kids. Very nice. And they DON'T make little girl hoochy wear.

Have I proved myself worthy of the gift certificate?

After the many years since I started having children I haven't been able to find a bathing suit that fits. I'm in!

Love Land's End!!! We're lucky enough to have one only 4 miles away! Our swim club opens in about a month (if we ever get rid of the snow!!) so I could use a new suit.

I bought a Land's End swimsuit last year and it was so comfortable. I need a new one for this year.
