$100 From Lands' End!

suits It's that time of year. Time to go shopping for a new bathing suit. Is there anything quite so depressing as trying on swimsuits in front of those huge dressing room mirrors under that flattering florescent light? When I'm in a dressing room trying on swimsuits, I'm just sure that some kid is going to crawl under the door, see me half naked and be traumatized for life. Or worse, I have an irrational fear of the fire alarm going off in the store and being forced to emerge from the dressing room and out onto the street in an ill fitting bathing suit. I can't think of a more embarrassing situation.

Of course you have to try on swimsuits with your underwear which is just lovely if you wear big granny pants and have to tuck your underwear up into the legs of your suit to see how it will really look on you. And it's nearly impossible for poor pear shaped people like me to find a swimsuit that fits on both the top and bottom.bathing suit

So, when Lands' End asked me if they could send me a swimsuit to try on in the comfort of my own home, I was interested. I was interested, but I still rather doubted they had any suits that would fit me and look less hideous than a hippo in a tutu nice. I took a look at the Lands' End website. I'd never shopped from Lands' End before and was very pleasantly surprised by their huge selection of swim wear. Not only do they have many items from which to choose, but they have so many attractive styles and a huge size range. Because I can't manage to stick to Weight Watchers for more than a week at a time, I still have to buy plus sizes and let me tell you, finding a flattering suit in a larger size is no easy feat. Lands' End has pages and pages of possibilities, however.

swim topOf course, they also have normal sizes too. They've got everything: Slender Suits designed to flatter a variety of body shapes and make you appear slimmer, Mix and Match Separates (perfect for pear shaped people!), one pieces, tankinis, swim shorts, swim skirts, mastectomy suits, cover-ups, bikinis, custom suits, and more! They seriously have something for everyone.

That's my top up there! It fits because I was able to order a size smaller on the top than on the bottom. It has underwire too, so I won't have to tuck my boobs into my shorts.

OK, now here's the awesome part! You, my wonderful readers, can win a $100 gift card to use on Lands' End swim wear! That's right - A HUNDRED DOLLARS! You can go to your local Lands' End store or use it online. (I recommend using it online and trying your new bathing suit on in the comfort of your own home.) How awesome is that?

Just leave me a comment and I'll choose a winner on Wednesday, May 7th at 10:00 PM central time. In the meantime, check out Lands' End's website and pick out your favorite suit! Happy shopping!

Hi Dawn,

You so make me laugh! I personally don't tuck my boobs the bottom of my bathing suit. I just carefully roll them up like a cinnamon roll and shove them in my top. Now THAT'S a nice look!

I never win anything, so this isn't as much an entry (unless, of course, you want to pick me) as much as a thank you for making me laugh every single day.

So, what kind of "fruck" do you have? I gotta tell you: I didn't really hear Brooklyn say the "r" in that word!

Wow! $100! Should I tell you why I think I should win? I am a 28 year old military wife. My husband and I have a 9 year old daughter and an 8 week old son. My husband left for his third tour in Iraq two weeks ago. I am a full time college student going to school to teach high school English as well as an elementary school substitute teacher. I have huge breast feeding boobs that need to be held up, as well as a ton of sagging, stretch marked belly skin that I desperately need to find a suit to hide. I'd love to win but if I don't, oh well. I won't be the first person to wear sweatpants and a baggy t-shirt to the pool. :) BTW, you really help me get through my days with your humor. No matter how hard my days are or how stressed I am, you make me laugh at least once a day. Thank you.

Hi Dawn! Thanks for always making me smile! I loved the video of Brooklyn! One of my sons is named Tucker...you can imagine what we heard when other kids were just learning how to say his name!

I love Lands End...they have the greatest kids clothes. I highly recommend the water sneaker type shoes for kids. They are so easy to get on even when feet are wet! And I would be lost without their winter gear for my boys! And they have a great return policy!

A new suit would be great...being able to try it on at home would be even better!

I am looking forward to your book! I hope your book tour takes you through western Massachusetts!

Lands' End suits are great. Especially for those of us who wear plus sizes. By the way (just because I know you're the grammer queen and you would probably want the spelling to be right on your blog) it's Lands' End, not Land's End, even though the second one would make more sense. I love your blogs and enjoy all the laughs I get.

At least you can stick with WW for a week, I do well enough to stick to it for an hour. Maybe that's why I have to buy Plus Size. The last suit I bought was before my son was born and he's almost 3 but I bought a year before I was even pregnant.

here's hoping, and crying, and wishing, and hoping...a new suit that could give me the illusion of having the boobs of a 20 year old- that's worth hoping, crying and wishing for.

Anonymous said...

Hi Dawn,

I don't know that I need a suit any more than these other deserving moms, but being 28 weeks pregnant with my third child, the sad fact is that it will be necessary for me to purchase a new suit once this little one is born. As we Moms know, with each child comes an addition of excess belly flab that refuses to go away no matter how hard you work at that stubborn area. I don't want to blind people AND make them vomit at my excess skin, so a new suit to hide the girth will be a must in August!

Steph said...

ooh, hoping for a new suit this year-- my first summer post-partum... and of course nothing fits like it used to. Sigh!

Here's my embarrassing fire alarm story: There is an awesome playroom in the children's section of our local library that I go to when I need to kill those sometimes gruesome hours between nap and dinner. One day last fall, while my older two children where happily playing dress up, I nursed my very ravenous 7 month-old. By number three, I was pretty much okay to nurse almost anywhere. She was (and still is) a very talkative nurser. It was rather adorable until the fire alarm went off. Not only did I almost loose my entire nipple to her sudden clench down (those three tiny opposing teeth can do damage!) but had to quickly and calmly lead my half princess/ half construction worker 2 year old daughter and my postman/ power ranger 4 year old son out of the building and onto one of the main thoroughfares of our town. Alright, not so bad, another adventure of life, right? Nope, little C was still hungry, so I had to finish nursing the unbloody side there. Of course she was very interested in everything going by (cars, fire trucks, firemen... lots of firemen) so she'd pop off, smile then reattach to finish up, lifting my shirt up every time! Good news though, it was just a false fire alarm.

I'd love to win, but does it have to be a swimsuit? I highly doubt with my 'body shape' there is anything that's flattering for that 'still looking 5 months pregnant' flabby look. I've only been carring that around for 2.5yrs now and YES it's still "post pregnancy weight" ;-)

My boys are 5 and 7 this summer so we're moving from backyard pool days to pool pass. Is $100 enough to buy magic? I think that is what it will take, along with the miracle, to make me look acceptable for a public pool. You'd think I'd be in better shape with a 20 year class reunion coming up. Come to think of it, I could use a magic/miracle for that as well. Any ideas?

A lot of my Mommy friends have Lands End suits! Would love to "keep up with the Jones". I don't buy myself expensive stuff, and let me tell you, I think $100 for a swim suit is quite pricey! My Mom bought a swim suit one year from a cheap-o place and we were swimming when we noticed the back was totally see through! She was a touch embarassed as my Dad had never noticed or told her about it. Just like a man. I am sure he would have noticed had the lady on the next blanket over had a see through suit! Oh well, my experience with Wal-mart suits has not been the greatest! There is sure to be someone else with the same suit who clearly looks better than I do in it. I wonder if my husband notices that!

By the way, I love your blog and have been reading from the e-bay auction. I have 4 kids and am a stay at home mom and surely related! Thanks!

I've been eyeing up another one: Women's Beach Living Solid Side-tie Swim Bottoms in red with the Women's Beach Living Chainlink V-neck Halter Swim Top, also in red.

Those swimsuits are so cute!
I am embarrassed to say that I gave up swimming several years ago after Baby #4 (and Baby #6 just turned a year old!)
I'm pear-shaped, too, so i feel your pain!
I think I'd be brave enough to go out in something like this...more covering!

And doesn't Land's End have the lifetime guarantee on their clothing??

I don't think my outlet mall suit from 2001 is going to cut it another summer...

I'd start shopping for swimsuits but I'm not convinced winter is ever going to end here in northern Wisconsin!

I really don't know what shape I am anymore. It's somewhere in between Shamu and Stay Puffed Marshmallow Man:( Land's End swimsuits sound like an answer to many women's prayers:)

I LOVE Land's End. They have the best return policy, if you are not 100% satisified they take it back no problem. Also, if you use Upromise College Saving Program (upromise.com), they are a participating vendor. Double score: great clothes that fit my body shape and saving for my daughter's college education! They also make wonderful children's clothes that actually fit my daughter.

How neat...We have a pool and live in the south, so of course I live in my suit all summer. Would love this!!!

Wow, a new swim suit? I could FINALLY take my kids swimming and not have a bath sheet wrapped around me until the very last second I get into the pool and back on me the very minute my mid-section emerges from the pool?

Great giveaway!

Would love a new suit, especially since I am stepping out of my box and doing a triathlon in July! And I am not thin, not by a stretch, just competing for myself and other women with REAL bodies, cellulite and all! Anyhow, would love a new suit that I won't fall out of during the swim!

BTW, LOVE your blog!

pick me, pick me!

My husband wear's LE dress shirts and loves them - they're cheap enough he can justify having them monogrammed. But I would use the gift certificate for me.

You can also buy LE stuff at some Sears stores and you can return things there even if you bought them online.

Land's End is my dream...keep trying to come up with a way to get one of their bathing suits b/c everyone I know who has one, LOVES IT! And after 3 kids in 4 years, heaven knows I need the help in the bathing suit department! ha! :)

What perfect timing. I just found out from my 15 year old son and my husband that apparantly I need to "tone it down a bit." I go to the gym 3 times a week and starve myself while watching them eat cookies and ice cream......all for...."you need to tone it down a bit. Now don't get me wrong, I had my son very young, and have always taken pride in the fact that I am one of the better looking moms on the PTA, um I mean, that my son can be proud of the way his Mom looks. So I started looking at Tankini's. Ok, I can suck it up and wear one of these. Its not like a one piece, right? I show my husband...."Babe, I like you better in those skimpy bikinis." "You are going to look like an old lady." WHAT?! Help!? Maybe Lands End could Help me?

Oh, that would be so awesome! We have a boat and take it out most weekends (although with gas prices that may stop) during the summer. We live in Pa so it's cold here the rest of the year. Anyway, I could really use a new suit for the boat.

I'm so glad you got a new suit - you totally deserve it. Land's End IS pretty superfantastic for Moms, especially Moms who don't want their daughters looking like hoochies!

OK, this would be great for those of us shaped like broccoli florets, too -- the total opposite of pear-shaped!! Big on top, small on bottom. And before you go wishing that YOU were like that, too, believe me, it's no picnic either. :) Thanks!!

Ok, so my family is going to Mexico in June and I have been DREADING!!! (and I seriously meant that to be in all caps!) the horrible swimsuit buying adventure. Winning the $100 would be great, and I am all for the "trying on in my own home" option. And the underwire top....amazing!! Cuz I used to believe that having small boobs would save me from sagging...not so much. It looks like a golf ball in a sweat sock...SO attractive....let me tell you!!! So, thanks for considering me and have a great weekend!!!
