It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

The other day, while I was shopping, I noticed a "back-to-school" display! I practically danced down the aisle. Yes! Woo Hoo! Back-to-school time! I grabbed a notebook and inhaled the fresh scent of paper! I flipped through the blank pages, just waiting for inspiration. I fingered a set of crayons, colors vibrant, points intact. Ahhh, a parent's utopia.

My kids, on the other hand, walked quickly by the aisles while calling to each other, "Quick! Close your eyes! Must. Get. Away. From. School. Supplies. Ow, it burns. It burns!"

Although I'm looking forward to accomplishing more during the day and hearing a lot less fighting from the kids, I'm actually not looking forward to school starting quite yet. (Shhh, don't tell anyone I said that.) But really, I hate the early morning routine and the homework battles. Summer's kinda nice in that respect. But whether you're counting down the days to school or dreading that first day back, the fact is that back-to-school time is fast approaching.

One thing that should be on everyone's back-to-school list, is a Lands' End backpack. I've always heard that Lands' End has THE BEST backpacks out there, but I've never coughed up the money for one. I buy my kids the cheap backpacks you can find at Target or Meijer or whatever. The thing is - I have to replace them every year. Sometimes they don't even make it through the school year. This year I'm investing in some good, strong, well-made backpacks. After seeing the quality of Lands' End swimwear, I have no doubts that their backpacks will be stylish and, more importantly, durable.

Here's the cool part - one lucky winner will receive a free Lands' End Multitask Backpack. Features of this backpack include:

Stash panel for a jacket, sports gear or bike helmet
Separate bottom chamber to stow a set of shoes
360° reflective trim to keep kids visible
Mesh side pockets to hold water bottles
MP3/CD player pouch for tunes

In addition to the backpack giveaway, Lands' End is offering FREE SHIPPING to all my readers! How better to shop for backpacks, lunch boxes and back to school clothes, than from the comfort of you own home? Sure, you'll save on gas, but even better - you won't have to drag your kids out shopping with you! That alone is worth its weight in gold (or gasoline)! Just shop online at Lands' End between July 31 and August 6, then simply enter the coupon code BACKTOSCHOOL and the pin 2382 when checking out. Can't beat that! Shop HERE for back-to-school clothes and uniforms, and look HERE for the Lands' End backpack guide to help you find the perfect backpacks for your little scholars.

Just leave a comment on this post for your chance to win a Lands' End Multitask backpack in the color of your choice. (I'll choose a random winner on Tuesday, August 5.) And start enjoying free shipping on Friday, July 31!

I've never coughed up the money for a backpack like that either, but if it lasts then it is well worth it! My son is going into the fourth grade and the books are getting bigger and heavier, so his backpack needs to get bigger and stronger!

I feel the same way about the backpacks sold at the department stores.. after several draggings in the rain, dirt, snow, salt, over the river and through the woods... they never make it throughout the year.
I saw the Land End backpacks catalog and am THRILLED I can get free shipping through your site ! HOW AWESOME IS THAT! (yes little uneventful things make me happy these days)

I usually go for the jansport backpacks...they last for a few years without breaking. But I would love to try the lands end, I love their stuff!

It IS the most wonderful time of the year, with one dark cloud. It's also the time of year when I have to return to work. I work at my son's elementary school.

I know exactly what you mean about replacing the backpacks every year. My daughter always manages to wear hers out too. Between the actual school books/work that gets carried back and forth, Girl Scout stuff, 4-H stuff and anything she needs to carry between her dad's house and mine...it gets a workout every day.

u know I am a jansport kind of girl, and my daughter has had the same Wal Mart backpack for the last three years, we gave five bucks for it! I did hear that Land's End had a lifetime warranty on their clothes though, never tried a backpack, but I do have a son that thinks that blue is great! so count me in,

Hey Dawn,

Lands End is awesome. Ya know... if you keep your receipts from anything that you buy there they have a full return policy with your original receipt. I was totally surprised that I was able to return a shirt that was 4 years old after I noticed the fabric was failing around the bottom. They gave me my money back!! I know... shockingly awesome eh??

With 5 kids, backpacks come and go. I fall for the "But I want the little Mermaid backpack" cry or the "Ahhh... can I have the Spiderman backpack? please... please..." plead. Usually within 6 months spiderman is looking pretty bad. So, count me in for the free giveaway.

I'm sure my kids would be happy to test drive it..

Loved your post... you make me giggle!!

I homeschool my four children, but I stock up at this time of year with all the great sales going on. They would all fight over who got the backpack, so I think I would have to use it myself. I seem to always be the one who ends up carrying all our things anyway!
Oh, and it sounds like Jackson could use a backpack with a shoe pocket on the bottom, to keep an extra pair in case he forgets them!

Land's End has great quality and they stand behind their products. Several years ago they replaced a coat that was probably 6 months old because the zipper broke and did it with no hassle. Love that service. I really should be getting the school backpacks from there because last year I ended up buying TWO new ones half way through the year because I bought the cheapos. Not sure that was a bargain.

I just got a Landsend swimsuit and I LOVE it! They have the best stuff, so I'm sure the backpack would be great!

I've been looking at Lands End backpacks this year too. With 4 kids in school now, I'm tired of buying cheap ones that don't even last the year. So free one would be great.

I love new supplies! Currently my oldest still loves school and everything with it. A durable backpack, would be wonderful!

I buy school supplies from our PTO so I don't have to fight the crowds at the store. What could be better than a backpack and shopping online?

Wow, I've never had a Land's End backpack, but I do know that everyone who has one loves it. It'd be perfect for my daughter.

My oldest daughter starts Kindergarten this year, so September is going to be a very bittersweet time for me. I can't believe that my baby is going to school...:(
But if she has to go, why not send her in style right?

I've heard great things about these backpacks but have never owned one. I'd love to see how well made they are.

I love the thought of a backpack that lasts . . . but is it as cool as Hello Kitty or pink Princesses? It's hard to convince a first grader. Maybe I'd just have to use it instead of the backpack I use that's falling apart (Old Navy, 4 years ago). Thanks for the reminder that sometimes it's better to pay more once than to pay less lots of times.

These backpacks look awesome and I am sure the quality is top notch like all Lands End merchandise is. Thanks for the chance. With 3 kids that need new backpacks, this would certainly get used.

I bought Lands End backpacks YEARS ago for my kids. Those things are indestructible!

But now The Teenager is going off to college and he does not want to take his 'little boy' backpack.

I think he would Love this one!

We have gone through several wal-mart backpacks and I would love to try out a quality one.

My son is on his 3rd school year with the Land's End backpack, and it still works great - absolutely no problems. I think it's time for my daughter to get one to !

This would be a great prize to win! I have two boys that both need new backpacks this year, the younger one destroyed his last year and the older one is now in middle school and his backpack is large enough to house a small child. I am so not paying that chiropractor bill later on! Thanks for your great blogs, Dawn!

I may cough up money for a pricey one when he is in middle school. The one I bought for $6 at CVS is still going strong, after a year of first grade AND being dragged back and forth to daycare all summer.

They are pretty though!
